Exclusive interview with Angel Reyero, group guitarist.

“I’m not the best person to discuss personal relationships because there’s nothing going on in my life, I’m intolerable, God can’t even tolerate me”

After receiving accolades and numerous music awards from prior recordings, “Flores de Alquiler” and “Acustico”, La 5a Estacion returns with their much awaiting album titled “El Mundo se Equivoca”, bearing the Song/BMG label which will be on sale August 22, 2006, featuring the first single: “Tu Peor Error”, written by Angel Reyero, the Trio’s guitarist and Armando Avila.

Once again the incomparable vocal by Natalia and the extraordinary labor by Angel and Pablo’s rhythm section appeals to all that’s good and true.

In regard to this new production, we chatted with Angel Reyero, La 5a Estacion’s guitarist, who in his modest way told of how satisfied they where with the end results of their album. He told us of the special chemistry shared with his producer Armando Avila, and his appreciation for the support given by the LGBT community for his music.

You-Tu: Angel, your comeback includes a self written single?

Angel: Yes, I wrote it together with Armando Avila, the album’s producer.
He’s really knows how to put this all together.

You-Tu: I think it’s great that you got back together with Armando Avila for this third album.

Angel: Yes, it truly is a good thing, besides the fact we worked with him on the Acoustic Album. We basically worked with him because he knows our ways, he knows how to deal with the three of us. Each of us compose separately, and each of us has different ideas, although we always end up with pop music. Nevertheless, each are influenced differently and he knows how to put it all together.

You-Tu: Your record company sent me a taste of “Tu Peor Error”, “Ahora que te vas”, “Me muero”, “Suenos Rotos”, and “Cosa de Dos” from your new album. I feel these songs are filled with nostalgia, desperation, melancholy, intimacy and poetry, telling us about failed personal relationships, almost wrist slitting. But, what is “El mundo se equivoca” all bout?

Angel: (Jokingly) We should have sent you the more positive songs. Overall we’re happy with the album. We’ve been able to mix it with more options, with orchestra, not only with one song, but with nine. We’ve used brass instruments and have more time to work on it.

You-Tu: Your single, “Tu peor error” and “Me muero”, which is one of my favorites. Do you think that they will be as important or more important than “Algo mas”). What do you think?

Angel: Well, hopefully that will be the case. We are very confident that this record will be successful. Our prior record, we were a little uncertain about it, but at least this one, we as well as our record label are very happy with the end r esults. As a matter of fact, it took one month of meetings to figure out which songs to keep, because there were many popular ones.

You-Tu: “Me muer)…I think it’s a perfect balance between “El Sol no regresa” and “Algo mas. “Me muero” has a hint of ranchero that many people have really enjoyed

Angel: Certainly, as a matter of fact, it possibly may be a single. We’re not sure yet; moreover, we don’t want to come out with a song extremely similar to what we’ve recently released. “Me muero” I believe is a perfect balance between “El Sol no regresa” and “Algo mas”. We’re just not too sure yet, because since the album is a world wide premiere. Yet for U.S. and other places, we know the song will do well; however, we want to come out a little softer for Spain and other Countries.

You-Tu: “Cosa de dos” is also yours. Tell me, what has happened lately, why such tormented lyrics?

Angel: Well, let me tell you… it’s sort of comical, I actually wrote that while in the Dallas airport. Coincidentally, that song and “Tu peor error” (Your biggest mistake) as well as others were songs that were not written for this album. They were intended for other pop projects Armando had in the works. They were specifically intended for a younger crowd. What I’m saying is that I rarely write about my own personal situations. I’m more of someone who writes soaps, and once you have a story line, people seem to relate to the lyrics. Obviously I’m not the best person to discuss personal relationships because there’s nothing going on in my life, I’m intolerable, God can’t even tolerate me, , and because of that, I always write my songs in the first party. When people go to concerts, they like to sing, because people want to or look to identify themselves with something.

You-Tu: Before your success, were you sure which venue to pursue?

Angel: Truly, we always knew more or less which way we were going, gut I think that in this record we’ve been able to really obtain the sound we wanted because of facilitating factors and through experience. In regards to the band’s sound, we are honestly extremely happy with this record.

You-Tu: What have you learned from Natalia and Pablo?

Angel: You learn to compose from others around you. Since everyone’s style is
different, you take from them as you would from anyone else. The difference is they are closer to you. “Personally, I feel that particular concert influenced me the most”

You-Tu: I had the opportunity to see you perform at the HOB in Hollywood, it was incredible. As the fans were leaving they were saying, “They sound just like the recording”, some said even better. What does the Los Angeles population and the Latin population from the U.S. mean to you?

Angel: Honestly, for us… and for me personally, that concert is what has set me apart professionally. We’ve played at other big places, but it was the HOB that has a very different vibe, that place has a special vibe. Obviously to come to Los Angeles where there is so many Latinos, even though its been said so often, it’s a familiar place. The crowd responds well, and we develop great report, something we would have never expected years ago.

You-Tu: Angel, you’re very shy. But on stage, you’re someone else. Since when have you known you wanted to be a guitarist and dedicate yourself to music?

Angel: Always……..I started playing with the guitar since I was eight years old, as well as the saxophone. However the guitar has become part of me, I’ve always enjoyed it.

“We’ve been accepted widely in the gay community”

You-Tu: Your fans are anxious to see you live. I want to confirm the August 11th date that was announced in San Diego.

Angel: I doubt if August will be the time. But we want to let all the people know, that a famous individual who shall be nameless is in charge of getting dates set up in Los Angeles. The other day however, there was a Gay club in Los Angeles that had 2,500 tickets sold for a concert we didn’t know about. Had we known, we would have gladly attended, we’ve been accepted widely in the gay community, who treat us superbly. We don’t have an issue with that at all. However all business dealings go through our office and if it doesn’t have our approval, we don’t perform. Needless to say that those who sell tickets to a fake concert and steals from our people is just wrong.

You-Tu: What does it mean to you to be widely accepted in the Gay community?

Angel: It is surprising, because we generally related our type of music to another genre, because the gay community is more into electro-tronic, more of a dance type of music, and all of sudden, this type of music is to their liking.
I think it’s more of a Natalia “thing”, the image she portrays and her voice is appealing to this community, and I think that we’re super happy about it.

You-Tu: We hope the fans understood about the mix up, we hope to see you at the Gibson Date.

Angel: We would just like to reiterate that anyone that would like us to perform, needs to contact our office directly. There are so many con artists out there. Unfortunately we can’t name that individual because of possible lawsuit repercussions.

Entrevista exclusiva con Ángel Reyero, el guitarrista de la banda.

“Yo no soy la persona más adecuada para hablar de relaciones personales porque no pasa nada en mi vida, soy insoportable, a mí no me aguanta ni Dios”

Después de sus aclamadas y exitosas placas discográficas anteriores, ‘Flores de Alquiler’y ‘Acústico’, La 5ª Estación regresa con la entrega de su esperado álbum titulado: 'El Mundo Se Equivoca’, editado por el sello Sony/BMG, la cual saldrá a la venta el 22 de agosto de 2006, y de la que se desprende el primer sencillo: “Tu Peor error”, de la autoría de Ángel Reyero, guitarrista del trío, y Armando Ávila.

Nuevamente la destreza vocal de Natalia y el trabajo extraordinario de la sección rítmica de Ángel y Pablo apuntan hacia lo netamente pulcro y honesto.

Y precisamente de esta nueva producción discográfica platicamos con Ángel Reyero, guitarrista de La 5ª Estación, quien muy a su singular manera de ser nos contó de lo satisfechos que se encuentran con el resultado final del álbum, de la química tan especial que tienen con su productor Armando Ávila, y del agradecimiento que sienten por la buena acogida que le ha dado la comunidad LGBT a su música.

-Ángel, en este disco regresan con un single que además es tuyo
-Sí, la compuse en conjunto con Armando Ávila el productor del disco.

“Él ha sabido congeniar completamente eso”

-Me parece súper bien que hayan regresado con Armando Ávila en este tercer disco.

-Sí, la verdad que es bueno, aparte de que en el álbum de acústico también trabajamos con él, y básicamente trabajamos con él porque como ya nos conoce, yo creo que sabe lidiar con los tres, porque cada uno compone por separado, y cada uno tiene ideas distintas aunque acabamos con el pop, pero cada uno tiene sus influencias, y él ha sabido congeniar completamente eso.

-¿Qué es lo que han aprendido del productor Armando Ávila?

-Pues de Armando sobretodo de como conseguir ciertos sonidos que estábamos buscando, y por otro la forma de estructurar las canciones de una manera coherente a nivel comercial, porque a nosotros como artistas hacemos lo que nos gusta, pero nunca te planteas si tiene que ir un coro o si algo es demasiado brusco para el oído hacia el público.

-Su discográfica me envió una probadita de “Tu peor error”, “Ahora que te vas”, “Me muero”, “Sueños Rotos”, y “Cosa de Dos”, de su nuevo disco y las canciones las siento llenas de nostalgia, desesperanza, melancolía, intimismo y poesía, nos cuentan el fracaso de las relaciones personales, son muy corta venas, pero ¿qué es ‘El mundo se equivoca’ para ustedes?

-Te hubiéramos enviado las canciones más alegres del disco, (bromea), el disco en general es un disco con el cual estamos muy contentos, es un disco con el que hemos cantado con muchos más medios a la hora de poder grabar con una orquesta no solo en una canción, sino en nueve, los instrumentos de metal que hemos usado, y el tiempo que hemos tenido para hacerlo.

-El single de “Tu peor error” y “Me muero” que es una de mis favoritas de la probadita que escuché siento que van hacer importantes igual o más que “Algo más”, ¿qué piensas sobre esta afirmación?

-Bueno, ojalá que sea así, que se cumpla, la verdad que nosotros estamos muy seguros de que va a funcionar el disco, porque el anterior fue como un disco que salió como con más dudas, pero en éste por lo menos tanto nosotros como la discográfica estamos muy contentos con el resultado, de hecho tuvieron un mes de reuniones una vez acabado el disco, porque no sabían por cual canción decidirse, porque había muchas que les gustaban.

“Me muero” yo creo que es el equilibrio perfecto entre “El sol no regresa” y “Algo más”

-“Me muero” tiene ese tinte ranchero que le ha gustado mucho a la gente.
-Sí, de hecho ese será un posible sencillo, no sabemos todavía, pero obviamente no queríamos salir con una canción semejante a la que ya habíamos hecho, y “Me muero” yo creo que es el equilibrio perfecto entre “El sol no regresa” y “Algo mas”, pero no sabemos todavía, porque como es un disco de lanzamiento mundial, tanto en Estados Unidos como en otros lados, sabemos que es una canción que va a funcionar muy bien, pero para España u otros países queremos salir con algo más suave.

-“Cosa de dos” también es tuya, cuéntame que te ha pasado últimamente, porque la letra está sufrida.
-Pues fíjate que es algo muy divertido, de hecho esa canción la escribí en el aeropuerto de Dallas, pero tanto esa canción, como “Tu peor error” y como otras, son canciones que no fueron escritas para este disco, sino que fueron para otros proyectos que Armando tenía de pop, incluso para gente más joven, digo es muy raro que yo escriba de algo personal, yo soy un poco de alguien que escribe novelas, lo que pasa que una vez que tienes la historia la adaptas a primera persona porque a la gente le gusta identificarse con las letras, pero obviamente yo no soy la persona más adecuada para hablar de relaciones personales porque no pasa nada en mi vida, soy insoportable, a mí no me aguanta ni Dios, (sonríe), y por eso siempre uno hace las canciones en primera persona, porque a la gente cuando va a los conciertos lo que le gusta es cantar, porque la gente lo que quiere o busca es identificarse.

-¿Antes del éxito estaban convencidos de la línea a seguir?
-Pues la verdad que siempre teníamos más o menos la idea de por donde iba, pero yo creo que hasta este disco hemos conseguido realmente el sonido que queríamos por cuestión de medios y experiencia, porque la verdad que con este disco en cuestión de sonido de la banda hemos quedado bastante contentos.

-¿Qué es lo que has aprendido de Natalia y Pablo?
-Siempre aprendes en la forma de componer de los demás, como son estilos diferentes siempre agarras de ellos el estilo como de cualquier otro artista, con la diferencia de que ellos están más cercanos a ti.

“Para mí personalmente ese concierto ha sido yo creo que el que más me ha marcado”

-Tuve oportunidad de verlos en el HOB de la ciudad de Hollywood, les fue increíble, cuando el público salió decía, “es que suenan como en el disco”, incluso unos decían que mejor. ¿Qué significa el público angelino y el público latino estadounidense para ustedes?

-La verdad es que para nosotros, para mí personalmente ese concierto ha sido yo creo que el que más me ha marcado a nivel profesional, hemos tocado en sitios muy grandes también, pero el HOB como que tiene otra vibra distinta, ese lugar como que tiene la vibra especial, y obviamente venir a los Ángeles donde hay tanto latino, digamos oír algo que resulte familiar el público reacciona muy bien, son relaciones estupendas que en ningún momento nos hubiésemos planteado hace años.

-Ángel tú eres muy tímido, pero en el escenario eres otro, ¿desde cuando supiste que querías ser guitarrista y dedicarte a la música?

-Siempre… bueno yo empecé a tocar la guitarra desde que tenía ocho años, el saxofón también pero siempre la guitarra se ha adaptado a mi forma de ser, y siempre me gustó hacer eso.

“Tenemos una gran acogida entre el publico gay”

-El público está ansioso de verlos en vivo, quiero corroborar contigo una fecha que están anunciando en San Diego para el 11 de agosto.

-En agosto no creo, también queremos hacer saberle a toda la gente que hubo un señor pero no vamos a decir el nombre porque con la suerte que tenemos… Hay un individuo así medio famosillo que se está encargando de vender fechas de la 5ª Estación en los Ángeles, y el otro día había un antro gay en los Ángeles que tenían 2,500 entradas vendidas y nosotros no lo sabíamos, digo obviamente si nosotros lo hubiésemos sabido nosotros encantados de ir, y sobretodo fíjate que tenemos una gran acogida entre el publico gay, nos tratan estupendamente, digo nosotros no tenemos ningún problema porque obviamente toda contratación pasa por la gente de nuestra oficina, y si no lleva nuestra firma no lo hacemos pero que le hagan a la gente comprar boletos para un concierto falso y la estafe en nuestro nombre… Eso no se hace.

-¿Para ustedes qué significa tener buena acogida entre el publico gay?
-Bueno, si nos sorprende porque nuestro tipo de música siempre lo relacionábamos con otro público, porque el público gay era como más electrónico, más dance, pero que de repente una música así rock les guste… Yo creo que también es una cuestión sobretodo por Natalia, la imagen que tiene y su voz le gusta mucho a este público y como te diría yo, ¡estamos muy contentos!

-Ojalá que el público entienda la aclaración, los esperamos en la fecha del Gibson.
-Nos gustaría recalcar que cualquiera que nos quiera contratar que se comunique directamente con nuestra oficina, porque hay muchos famosillos estafadores, te digo de momento no damos el nombre de la persona porque con la suerte nos contra demanda.
